Begin with the exact recall identity
Search CPSC and the manufacturer's recall page using the brand, product name, model, revision, date code, and lot code. Learning towers from multiple brands have had recent fall, collapse, and entrapment recalls, and a family name may cover both affected and unaffected products. Do not buy or use a unit whose identity cannot be resolved or whose required repair has not been completed.
Inspect the platform as a load-bearing system
Read how the platform is inserted, supported, locked, and moved between heights. Check that fasteners and crossbars are present, correctly oriented, and cannot work loose in normal use. An adjustable platform is useful only when each position has an unambiguous secure state. Recheck it before each session and immediately stop after movement, cracking, wobble, or unexplained noise.
Match stability to the real counter
Set the tower on a clean, dry, level floor where all feet contact fully. Follow any wall or counter positioning requirement and inspect the gap in which hands, feet, or the tower could become trapped. Test entry and gentle loading without a child. Keep it away from islands with open edges, uneven mats, cabinet doors, drawers, appliance handles, and busy walkways.
Evaluate openings and climbing routes
Look at the product from a child's height. Side cutouts, bars, steps, and accessories can become footholds or exit routes. Openings must not create head, neck, torso, or limb entrapment hazards. Do not add unapproved straps, nets, trays, cushions, or homemade modifications. A surrounding rail reduces some falls but does not make unsupervised standing or climbing safe.
Supervise the activity, not just the furniture
The adult should remain within reach and control the work area. Move knives, hot cookware, cords, cleaners, glass, and small objects away before the child enters. Teach one entry and exit path and end the session if the child climbs the outside, rocks the tower, sits on rails, or reaches beyond stable balance. Reassess skills and size rather than relying only on birthday age.
